Community Call for ATCO Torch Relay Nominations

The 2018 Alberta Winter Games seeks relay team members for ATCO Torch Relay

Do you know a Wood Buffalo youth, aged 11-17, who embodies and demonstrates the Alberta Winter Games Spirit and dedication to sport, culture, and community?

The 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games Society seeks nominations for the 2018 Alberta Winter Games ATCO Torch Relay Team.

“The ATCO Torch Relay is a unique and honourable way to celebrate our region’s talented members. The ATCO Torch Relay marks the commencement of the games and celebrates Alberta’s youth coming together in friendship and excellence,” says Joanne Langevin, ATCO Torch Relay Chair – 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games Society. “We want the community to share with us information about our amazing local youth so we can highlight them to the entire province through participation on the Alberta Winter Games ATCO Torch Relay team.”

The ATCO Torch Relay takes place on Friday, February 16, 2018, in the heart of downtown Fort McMurray. The final leg of the relay is the ceremonial lighting of the cauldron during the 2018 Alberta Winter Games Opening Ceremonies sponsored by ATCO.

Torch Bearer Eligibility:

  • Between the age (s) 11-17.

  • Be able to complete (run/walk/wheel) assigned 200m distance.

  • Have a guardian who will accompany bearer during the ATCO Torch Relay and be responsible for transportation to and from Rehearsal day, ATCO Torch Relay, and Opening Ceremonies.

  • Be prepared to participate in a training session/rehearsal prior to the ATCO Torch Relay on Thursday, February 15.

  • Be prepared to participate in the Opening Ceremonies following the ATCO Torch Relay on Friday, February 16 at 7pm.

  • Sign the Participation waiver before or on the ATCO Torch Relay day.

  • Agree to have photo published by the 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games, sponsors, or media for the purpose of promoting the Alberta Winter Games ATCO Torch Relay.

Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre’s first Back Of House volunteer requests of the year!

Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre are looking for help back stage for from November 18th through to December 2nd.

They are looking for 2 fly operators and 1 dresser/runner.

Your schedule will be as follows and you MUST be available for all dates.

Festival of Trees/Old Fashion Christmas – Call for Entertainment

Entertainment for Festival of Trees & An Old Fashion Christmas 2017

91.1 The Bridge is again coordinating the entertainment for the Festival of Trees 2017 and we are excited to have An Old Fashion Christmas at Heritage Park back this year. We anticipate both events to be great!

The 2017 Festival of Trees event will be held at MacDonald Island Park Nov. 17 – 19 in the Nexon Field House.

The Old Fashion Christmas 2017 will be held at Heritage Park Nov. 25th .

Your performance for the festival will entertain people as they give funds towards vital medical equipment, programs and services in Wood Buffalo and both events help people celebrate the holiday season and the spirit of giving.

Teachers would you consider including either or both events in your programming for the fall? We would love to have your participation.

To reserve a spot, please fill in the following information so that we can position you throughout the events. Please indicate which event you are interested in.

    • Old Fashion Christmas- 1:00- 4:00pm
    • Festival of Trees Sat – 10:15am – 12:15pm Sun – 10:15am – 1:00pm
    • We are also looking for a musician to lead a Christmas Carol sing- along from 1:00p.m.-1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. It would be ideal to have a host musician and a group of children in the background for the sing along.
  7. Please send bio of performer or performing group.
  8. For the Festival the main stage is 20ft wide x 12ft deep x4ft high. For safety reasons all dancers will be performing on the floor in front of the stage which is approximately 24×12. If you are not sure yet, what you will be performing, please let us know of your interest and we will follow up with you in early October for more details.

Performers are requested to respect the following guidelines to ensure a quality event for our guests.

  1. Arrive ½ hour early and report to the stage manager.
  2. Bring all props/instruments, music
  3. Performance length-approx. 2 songs each time slot. For Old Fashion Christmas it can be longer.
  4. Set up time 5 mins.-let us know if you need longer and we will do our best to work with you.

Please remember that these are Christmas events and so your performance must contain seasonally relevant Christmas music. For the Festival only there will be a dressing/waiting room set-up for performers. We will verify location when we verify your performance time. Call for Volunteers: Fort McMurray Urban Market Entertainment Tent

Seeking Supporters of the Arts in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo

Arts Council Wood Buffalo is seeking passionate arts advocates to promote the arts at the Fort McMurray Urban Market over the summer market season. Volunteers will be stationed in the Entertainment Tent with local performers and engaging with community members interested in knowing more about the arts community.

The Urban Market is an annual event running from June until September, located at Jubilee Plaza in Fort McMurray. Visitors can find a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, handmade crafts, free-range meats, prepared lunch items, ethnic food and much more. Important Information

  • Volunteers must be aged 18+. Individuals between 16 & 17 years of age can volunteer with parental consent.
  • The markets will be held rain or shine. Please bring appropriate clothing for all weather conditions.
  • Volunteers may be left on their own for short periods of time. An ACWB employee will be at the market periodically throughout the day.

Volunteers Needed! Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards

Arts Council Wood Buffalo is holding the first ever Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards on October 22, 2016.  It will be a fun-filled night of performers, food and beverages, visual art, awards, and socializing!

The theme of the event is “The Midnight Circus” and ACWB is looking for 20 volunteers to help with set up and take down, event flow, drink ticket sales, security, etc. Some rolls can overlap as well depending on how involved the volunteers wish to be.

Volunteers will receive our undying gratitude, food, and a bird’s eye view of the event of the century!

Liquor Ticket Sales (must be over 18 years old) – Need: 1

  • This individual must be comfortable ID’ing people and refusing ticket sales if needed
  • This role will be from 7pm until 11:30pm
  • Must have Pro Serve certification (Arts Council will reimburse associated fee)

 

Food Assist – Need: 2

  • Cleaning away garbage; consolidating food items on tables; replenishment
  • This role will be from 7pm to midnight

 

Backstage Event Flow Organizers – Need: 3

  • Keep performers on time for their performances
  • This role will need to be present for rehearsals 11am until 5pm and 7pm to 11pm for event

Runners (must be over 18 years old) – Need: 2

  • Jack/Jane of all trades 7pm to midnight
  • Covering breaks and busy areas
  • Must have Pro Serve certification to cover Art & Wine/Liquor Ticket sales breaks (Arts Council will reimburse associated fee)

Security – Need: 6

  • Protect displayed artwork for Art & Wine pairing
  • Protect displayed awards
  • One or two stationed at the main doors all evening (liquor permitted indoors only)
  • 6:30pm until 12:30am

Set up/Strike – Need: 6

  • Friday afternoon, October 21st, for pick up, delivery and assembling of pipe and drape (need to be strong!); 2 people, approximately 3-4 hours (may be less); exact time TBD

Night of event:

  • 9am until noon – 6 people
  • Midnight until 1am – 6 people
